About Oman Air
Founded in 1993, Oman Air (www.omanair.com) is the flag carrier airline of Oman. Boasting a fleet of 50 aircraft flying to 50 international destinations, Oman Air is a key export brand for the country of its origin. Flying under the slogan “Modern Vision, Timeless Traditions”, the airline operates scheduled domestic, regional and international passenger flights, as well as charter fights and air taxi services. The airline’s primary hubs are situated at Muscat International and Salalah International Airport. It is wholly owned by the Oman Government, and is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Association.
The airline commenced its international long haul services to London and Bangkok in 2007. The airline expanded its fleet in the period leading up to 2010, acquiring 5 Airbus A330 from Airbus, and leasing an additional 2 Airbuses from Jet Airways. The airline also took ownership of 5 Embraer 175s in 2011. For more information about the airline’s expansion strategy, click here.
The airline was the first airline in the world to offer both mobile phone and WiFi internet service along selected air routes. The airline’s frequent flyer programme is called Sindbad.
Codeshare agreements
As of 1 August 2017, Oman Airways, as it is sometimes erroneously searched for, will have codeshares in place with the likes of KLM, Kenya Airways, Saudia, Thai Airways, Etihad, Garuda Indonesia, Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa as well as Ethiopian Airlines and Royal Jordanian.
Key flight routes and destinations
Within Africa, Oman Air flies to Cairo in Egypt, Nairobi in Kenya, as well as as Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar in Tanzania. As of March 2017, the airline is operating 5 weekly flights between Muscat and Nairobi using a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Internationally, the airline flies to Doha, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kuwait City, Amman, Bahrain and Kathmandu. India is a key target country for the airline, with frequent passenger flights to Delhi, Bangalore, Goa, Jaipur and Mumbai, amongst other key cities.
