About the airline
Africa World Airlines Limited, sometimes searched for as FlyAWA, is a Ghana based airline headquartered in Accra, and with its main air hub at Kotoka International. Founded in 2010, the airline only commenced flight operations in September 2012. By 2016, the airline had a fleet of 3 aircraft flying to 5 destinations in Africa. The airlines parent company is Hainan Airlines, the largest privately owned airline company and the- fourth largest in terms of fleet size in the People’s Republic of China.
The airline operates both schedule services and charter flights under the payoff line Touching Africa, Touch The World.
The AWA Fleet
As of 2016, the airline’s fleet consists of 3 Embraer ERJ-145Lis, each capable of carrying 50 passengers along the airline’s domestic and short haul flight routes.
Key flight routes and destinations
Domestically, AWA flies to Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale, as well as to Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Nigeria. The airline has plans to increase both its fleet size and the number of destinations flown to in the near future – especially along the west coast of Africa and then within other African regions.
Within 5 years, the airline is aiming to add up to 8 Airbus 320s or Boeing 737s to its fleet along routes to Banjul, Conakry,Abidjan, Abuja, Dakar, Entebbe, Harare, Johannesburg, Luanda, Ouagadougou, and Port Harcourt, among other key destinations.
