South African Airways (SAA) in January 2016 announced the introduction of a second direct flight route into Nigeria. The move is intended to boost trade and make business travel between the countries easier.According to FlySAA.com, “passengers can now fly directly from Abuja to Johannesburg. No stopovers, no unnecessary connections, nothing to get between you and your business”.
The airline’s regional general manager for Africa and Middle East, Aaron Munetsi is quoted as saying that the direct flight from Johannesburg to Abuja will be serviced with the airline’s modern Airbus 330-200s.
South African Airways already flies to 56 destinations, and will operate three weekly non-stop flights between Johannesburg and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The Abuja flights connect into SAA’s inter-continental flight route network to destinations such as Hong Kong, Sao Paulo and Perth.
