FlyAero with it’s slogan “the reliable way to fly” is a well-established service provider to Africa’s travel market. The airline offers professional passenger services, air charter and scheduled local and regional commercial flights in Nigeria.
Headquartered at the Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed Airport, FlyAero employs over 1300 personnel and has become synonymous with affordable flights and convenient routes.
Although founded in 1959, the airline only opened its doors for business in 1960, when it was fully owned by Schreiner Airways B.V. of the Netherlands. Between 1960 and 2012, FlyAero changed ownership repeatedly until 2013, when the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria stepped in, bought the airline and placed Hugh Fraser as its CEO. Since its inception, Fly Aero has provided professional air services to the oil and gas industry in Nigeria too.
The FlyAero Fleet
FlyAero has a fleet of 16 aircraft consisting of seven Boeing 737-400s, five Boeing 737-500s, one De Havilland Dash 8 Q200, one De Havilland Dash 8 Q300 and two De Havilland Dash 8 Q400s and 20 helicopters made up of Dauphin 2 models.
Baggage Allowances and Limitations
FlyAero offers its passengers the following baggage allowances and limitations for Nigerian flights:
- 20kg of luggage in both business class and economy class, and one piece of hand luggage not exceeding 6kg or 45cm x 33cm x 20cm.
- Excess baggage is charged an additional per kilo fee.
FlyAero offers convenient flights to destinations including Accra in Ghana and 13 other destinations within Nigeria. Simple Check-in Procedures at FlyAero
Fly Aero offers standard check-in procedures. Passengers should arrive at the airport 2 hours prior to departure. All check-in procedures are closed 40 minutes prior to departure. Online check-in allows passengers to avoid queues, print their own boarding pass and even choose their own seat ahead of the time. The In-flight Experience
FlyAero places importance on the comfort and safety of its passengers. Convenient seat pitch and ample leg room make each flight as comfortable as possible. Passenger’s needs are effectively catered to with the in-flight service and entertainment, which offers WIFI, broadcast film, broadcast languages, individual screens, earphones, in-flight magazine and on board shopping. Passengers are also provided with a variety of fresh meals, as well as a selection of appetisers, wines and soft drinks.
Partnerships and Code Share Agreements
FlyAero and CHC have had an agreement in place regarding its rotary wing division, since 2004. The airline has two partnerships in place, bringing about the company’s two divisions. These are:
- Rotary Wing Division – this division provides the Nigerian oil and gas industry with helicopter services.
- Aero Nigeria Division – this division providers Nigeria and Western Africa with scheduled passenger services.
FlyAero in the news
On 5 June 2015 a FlyAero flight en route to Laduna from Lagos rapidly lost altitude just 20 minutes into the flight. The cabin crew and airline staff members were later commended on their professionalism and attentiveness to passenger’s needs as the aircraft was successfully diverted to Abuja. All 120 passengers were safely disembarked.
